Winter Knifesmithing Workshop
Friday - Sunday, January 23 - 25
with Grant Adkisson and Nico Piedrahita
Join master blacksmithing mentor, Grant Adkisson, to make your own knife! In this three day class, you will learn all the skills you need to turn raw steel and wood into an elegant and highly functional knife. We'll cover many topics, including:
forging techniques to set yourself up for the knife shape you want.
heat treating steel to make your knife hold a good edge.
tools and techniques for shaping and sharpening your finished knife blade.
attaching and finishing a comfortable, sturdy handle.
What: 3-Day Knifesmithing Workshop
When: January 23-25, 9AM-4PM
Where: Convenient drop-off and pick up in Asheville. Ride in the van to and from
Grant’s blacksmithing workshop at Corylace Cove in Marshall.
How much: $250-$350 sliding scale
*Previous blacksmithing experience is highly encouraged but not required.

About Grant:
Grant was first inspired to teach in the 90s when he attended an outdoor camp as a teen and worked as a counselor in training. He is passionate about connecting young people to practical skills that will help them to build resilience in their daily lives. He has worked with many organizations including Forest Floor, Ancestral Knowledge, Firefly Gathering and Florida Earthskills. He was the Youth Programs Coordinator for Earthskills Rendezvous for eight years. He and his partner, Sara Henry, are the founders of Corylace Cove and have been running their own programs for youth since 2021.
